Sean O'Neill's wheelchair ascent of the Hawaii's Mauna Kea Sean sent the rig - he pushed his wheelchair up to the top of Mauna Kea, 13,796. He began with his knobby tires in the Pacific Ocean at 8am on Sept 30th. He rolled away from the water with gloveless hands and arrived at the summit almost 40 hours later at 11:45pm. Spectacular feat. He's doing fine: chilling with new friends, no pressure sore action, eating carob chips and bananas, and not feeling too flagged. He was drinking a Foster's 'oil can' on ice back at the hostel and feeling quite elated when we spoke last. He has a week more of sun, sand and elevation with an additional peak bagging session awaiting him on an adjacent island. Ammon McNeely (The El Cap Pirate), Sean and myself might be meeting in early October in Yosemite Valley to climb El Capitan again. I'll keep you posted.
